Frequently Asked Questions

What does WongPartnership look for in practice trainees?

While strong academic record is important, we also value a good attitude, a desire to learn and a willingness to contribute: team players who can fit into the ethos of the Firm.

What is the culture like at WongPartnership?

We have a strong culture of hard work, where everyone is driven to achieve and perform. The team spirit is high and a strong collegiate spirit is evident where everyone is on a first name basis.

Will I be provided with an honorarium?

We offer our current practice trainees the following:

  • A monthly honorarium of S$2000 per month during the training contract and honorarium of S$500 per month for time spent at Part B of the Bar Examinations; and
  • Full subsidy of Part B of the Bar Examinations fees, EFS, dining and other compulsory filing fees, provided the training contract is completed with us and the practice trainee has accepted the firm’s offer of retention as Associate.

Is it stressful working at WongPartnership?

Of course you will be faced with challenges and tasks that will demand energy and commitment from you. That said, we are mindful that all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy, so we encourage our lawyers to take time out to relax and to have some fun. Our lounges are stocked with a plasma TV, a pool table and a foosball table, amongst others. Practice trainees are able to enjoy discounts and privileges in our welfare suite including discounts at various cafes and restaurants, travel discounts and more. We also organise regular welfare events such as workshops, talks and mini-bazaars in office.

How big is the Firm?

We have over 300 lawyers and we are constantly growing.

Will I be pigeon-holed in the practice early on?

No you won’t. Although we will assign you to a practice area during your training contract, we will provide you with a chance to rotate to other practice areas. This ensures that you will get the opportunity to practise in an area of your interest.

Who will be guiding me?

You will be assigned a partner mentor within the group. The mentor will provide personal guidance and support and ensure that you are making suitable progress on the training contract checklist. Our mentor system ensures that you receive personal attention and will have opportunities to work with, and have direct access to partners. There will be opportunities to work with the more senior partners.

What is the retention rate at WongPartnership?

Practice trainees are taken in with a view to retention and we assess each practice trainee on his/her own merits. We have a tradition of high retention rates for pupils and practice trainees.

I’m interested in working overseas. Does WongPartnership provide me with opportunities to be seconded abroad?

There will be opportunities for our lawyers to be seconded to the Firm’s offices in China, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar and the Middle East, and with various clients elsewhere.
