Corporate Social Responsibility

We believe in giving back to the community. Our people are afforded ample opportunities to contribute to the community, Pro Bono Practice, the Environment and Legal Education. We have also made significant contributions to more than 30 registered charities.

We have a responsibility to give back to the community which we are part of. Collectively, we can definitely make an impact through participation of various activities.

Singapore Association of Myanmar - Business Summit and Fundraiser and Charity Golf & Dinner 2018

WongPartnership LLP has been active in Myanmar for many years, having advised various clients on investments, projects, joint ventures and mergers and acquisitions in or involving Myanmar. This year, we are proud to have been a sponsor of the inaugural Singapore Association of Myanmar (SAM) Business Summit. Our Firm's resident Partner in Myanmar, Suegene Ang, spoke at the summit on some of the key legal developments in Myanmar in 2018. The event brought together business leaders and the wider business community in Myanmar to discuss economic, legal and specific industry sector topics, and the economic outlook of Myanmar in 2019.

WongPartnership is also happy to continue our support of the annual SAM Fundraiser and Charity Golf & Dinner. The proceeds from the event will go to SAM’s selected charitable beneficiaries, and will be used to fund the organisation’s landmark project, Rakha Arr Mann (“The Strength”) Education Centre, in Minbra Township, Mrauk Oo District. The project will support and provide free meals, accommodation and tuition to 200 youth beneficiaries.

SGX Bull Charge 2018

We believe in giving back to the community and we are happy to be a sponsor for the SGX Bull Charge 2018. Apart from participating in a friendly Ultimate Frisbee tournament through SGX’s first Charity Ultimate Frisbee on 27 October, an enthusiastic group of WongPartnership lawyers and staff also participated in the Charity Run on 30 November. SGX has been rallying the financial community and its listed companies together for a common cause to support the needs of underprivileged children and families, persons with disabilities, and the elderly since 2004. We are glad to be part of this meaningful cause that will see the funds raised benefiting SGX's adopted beneficiaries, including Autism Association (Singapore), AWWA Ltd, Community Chest, Fei Yue Community Services, HCSA Community Services, and Shared Services for Charities.

SGX Bull Charge 2015

13 November 2015 – Held every year since 2004, the SGX Bull Charge brings together partners from the financial community and SGX-listed companies for a charity run in support of the needs of underprivileged children and families, persons with disabilities, and the elderly. This year's run saw an enthusiastic group from WongPartnership take on the 5km race route around the Marina Bay area for a good cause. Besides enjoying the views of the financial district, participants also joined in the after-run carnival activities such as a Singapore-style Pasar Malam with food stalls and games, specially organised in celebration of SG50.

The proceeds raised will benefit four beneficiaries – the Asian Women's Welfare Association (AWWA) Ltd., Autism Association (Singapore), Fei Yue Community Services and Shared Services for Charities. This is the 12th consecutive year that WongPartnership has taken part in the SGX Bull Charge with 38 runners participating in this year's event.

Willing Hearts

29 October 2015 – As part of our CSR initiative, a group led by Joint Managing Partner, Rachel Eng and Partner, Vivien Yui, volunteered an afternoon with Willing Hearts, a secular, non-denominational and non-affiliated charity wholly-run by volunteers. Running 365 days a year, its soup kitchen prepares, packs and delivers approximately 4,500 meals daily at over 40 distribution points across Singapore to the needy.

Unlike social assistance schemes, Willing Hearts runs on a "no questions, ask and you shall be given" policy, offering food to those who request for it, according to a long-term contributor. For some recipients, it is their only meal for the day. Our volunteers spent the day preparing vegetables required for cooking the next day – cleaning and cutting broccoli into sizes small enough for the elderly. In addition to this visit, more volunteers from WongPartnership will be contributing to Willing Hearts in the coming months.

At the end of every month, Foodbankers will collect and replace the filled Bank Box.

The Food Bank Singapore strives to facilitate the equitable distribution of food by collecting the surplus foods in the market and supplying them to those in need through a network of member beneficiaries. 50 for 50 – A SG50 Charity Project

16 September 2014 – Partner, Koh Swee Yen, together with 49 other Gen-Y youths, took up the challenge in a charity drive launched by non-profit organisation, The Social Co, to raise funds for charities that they feel strongly about. The initiative is called "50 for 50", in celebration of Singapore’s 50th anniversary next year.

She chose to support the Alzheimer’s Disease Association as she felt that there was a lack of public awareness of the medical (and legal) issues that affect elderly persons who have dementia. She reached out to her business contacts, colleagues, family and friends to garner donations. The total sum raised will be matched under the Care-and-Share match funding programme dollar-for-dollar, bringing the amount to four times of what the changemakers have raised.

Pro Bono Practice

Extending our services to those in need – Pro Bono is an integral part of our culture. We strongly believe that volunteer legal services bring benefits to both the community and the volunteer.
