Alvin LIM is a Partner in the Specialist & Private Client Disputes Practice and Private Wealth Practice.
His areas of practice include company law, employment law, property law, intellectual property, insurance, trusts and probate, and contractual and tortious claims.
Alvin has an active practice in civil and commercial litigation. He has acted in a wide range of disputes relating to cross-border investments, shareholding and directorships, partnerships, tenancies, and financial instruments such as bonds and options. He was lead counsel in a forex trading dispute, where he successfully defended his client at first instance and on appeal.
Alvin also advises on regulatory matters, including data protection law. He has advised on investigations by the Personal Data Protection Commission of a data breach and the forensic analysis of the company’s IT infrastructure.
Alvin is a recommended lawyer in the Private Wealth Practice in The Legal 500: Asia Pacific 2019 rankings, and regularly advises institutions and individuals in the area of trusts and estates. He is a tutor for the Wills, Probate and Administration Practice preparatory course for the Singapore bar examinations. He also advises charitable organisations on a pro bono basis.

- MSD, a global pharmaceutical giant, in claims for infringement of intellectual property rights and breach of contract in Singapore proceedings, as part of multi-jurisdictional litigation in the US, UK, Germany, Australia, etc.
- The marketing agent for Canadian crude oil investments, in a complex cross-border dispute involving legal and equitable claims of SGD 90 million brought by more than 1,000 investors from Hong Kong, Macau, Malaysia and Singapore.
- A prominent businessman and director of public listed companies in Singapore and Malaysia, in a USD 40 million dispute against a private equity mezzanine fund involving convertible bond agreements and personal guarantees.
- The private wealth management arm of an international bank, as trustee of a trust fund worth more than EUR 18 million. The court application involved changes in a foreign tax regime, forensic handwriting analysis and novel legal issues.
- The Private Trustees In Bankruptcy of the bankruptcy estate of Koh Sin Chong Freddie, in the first case before the Singapore Courts for the forced sale of a landed property co-owned by the bankrupt.
- The Singapore Medical Council, in disciplinary proceedings against a prominent oncologist relating to cutting-edge cancer treatment and the viability of the surgical resection of a tumour.
