Magdalene ONG is a Partner in the Commercial & Corporate Disputes Practice.

Her main areas of practice include litigation and arbitration relating to commercial and corporate disputes. She also has extensive experience in contentious arbitration involving disputes in infrastructure, construction and engineering sectors and is familiar with the Building and Construction Industry Security of Payments Act.

Magdalene is also an accredited Specialist in Building and Construction Law and was recently awarded the Christopher Bathurst Prize 2022 by the Singapore Academy of Law.

Matters of significance in which Magdalene has been involved in include advising / acting for the following:

  • Various disputes in the construction and engineering sector, including successfully defending a multi-million dollar claim in an SIAC arbitration in respect of an iconic public infrastructure project; advising and representing contractors and developers in adjudication, arbitration and Court proceedings on a variety of issues including contractual breaches and termination, delay and extensions of time.
  • Potential disputes related to claims made for delay, force majeure and termination arising out of 15 contracts valued at a total of more than US$37 billion between international parties for the construction of Artic LNG Carriers.
  • A Ministry of the Singapore government in Neutral Evaluation proceedings concerning claims brought by its main contractor for the construction of a public hospital with the disputed amount in excess of S$100 million.  
  • An SGX-listed company in court proceedings for claims arising out of the sale and purchase agreement of its subsidiary.
  • Clients in applying to set aside an adjudication determination in CHL Construction Pte Ltd v Yangguang Group Pte Ltd [2019] SGHC 62 which was successful at first instance.
