On 4 September 2026, the Ministry of Trade and Industry issued a press release announcing that Singapore and the Lao People’s Democratic Republic (Lao PDR) have entered into an implementation agreement (Implementation Agreement) on carbon credits collaboration under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement. The Implementation Agreement establishes a legally binding bilateral framework for the generation and international transfer of correspondingly adjusted high-integrity carbon credits from carbon mitigation projects aligned with Article 6 of the Paris Agreement.

In this update, our Co-Heads of Sustainability & Responsible Business Quak Fi Ling and Tiong Teck Wee, and Partners Rosabel Ng and Tian Sion Yoong, highlight the key features of the Implementation Agreement.
