WongPartnership continues to grow its international arbitration practice with strategic hire

14 Aug 2026

SINGAPORE, 14 AUGUST 2026 – WongPartnership welcomes Pablo Fraile Maqueda to the Firm’s International Arbitration Practice. With 10 years’ experience representing multinational corporations and sovereign states in complex, high-value arbitrations, Pablo has a proven track record in arbitrations under the SIAC, ICC, ICSID, NAI and SCC rules. He has particular expertise in energy, construction, M&A, and commercial and investment disputes.

Prior to joining WongPartnership, Pablo was with the International Arbitration practice at a leading arbitration firm in the Netherlands. From 2023 to 2024, he was based in the firm’s Singapore office, where he played a key role in strengthening its Asia-Pacific disputes capability, and built strong relationships within the regional arbitration community.

Managing Partner and Head of Litigation & Dispute Resolution, Chou Sean Yu said, “Pablo’s experience and background adds to the international nature of our practice, as we are increasingly instructed on mandates that go far beyond Singapore’s shores. We warmly welcome Pablo to the Firm, and we look forward to his contributions.”

Pablo's experience includes representing investors and sovereign states in investment treaty arbitrations, as well as multinational energy and chemical companies in complex commercial disputes. For instance, Pablo represented a Dutch financial services group against a Latin American State in an ICSID arbitration concerning the expropriation of a pension business. Drawing on his background in law and economics, Pablo also acted for a major truck manufacturer on damages claims brought across Europe, where he oversaw the economic expert workstream on quantum.

Pablo is admitted to practice in Spain and as a solicitor in England & Wales, and is a registered foreign lawyer in Singapore. He holds an LL.M. and an MSc in International Economics from Erasmus University Rotterdam. He is fluent in Spanish and English, with intermediate proficiency in Dutch and Portuguese.

WongPartnership’s dispute resolution practice is one of the largest in Singapore and the region, comprising 170 lawyers and 4 Senior Counsel, with lawyers qualified to practise in Singapore, England & Wales, New York, China, India, the Philippines, Vietnam, and Spain. Our arbitration practice and Partners are internationally recognised by major legal publications, with many of our Partners holding leadership roles across major international arbitral institutions and organisations.
