WongPartnership welcomes Cheang & Ariff to WPG, a regional law network
23 Sep 2025SINGAPORE, 23 SEPTEMBER 2025 – Leading Singapore law firm WongPartnership LLP announces the addition of Malaysian law firm, Cheang & Ariff, to WPG, a regional law network. WPG was established by WongPartnership in 2017 and today offers clients unparalleled legal expertise and tailored solutions across Asia and the Middle East.
The growth and success of WPG enhances WongPartnership’s long-standing regional focus. More than 20 years ago, WongPartnership became one of the first Singapore law firms to establish a presence in China. Today, it offers full service multi-jurisdictional legal advice across Singapore, Asia, and the Middle East through WPG in key markets such as Indonesia, Malaysia, and the Philippines, and stands out as the only large Singapore law firm with a strategic alliance in the Middle East.
WPG’s latest addition, Cheang & Ariff, is a highly regarded Malaysian law firm, consistently recognised by leading international legal publications. The firm is known for its strong focus on dispute resolution, and its corporate, capital markets, mergers and acquisitions, and intellectual property practices. Cheang & Ariff joins Foong & Partners - an existing member of WPG - to form the Malaysian network alliance of WPG. The two WPG Malaysia member firms combine complementary strengths to offer seamless, integrated legal services across corporate, financial services and dispute resolution.
Ng Wai King, Chairman and Senior Partner of WongPartnership LLP said, “We welcome Cheang & Ariff to WPG. Their addition strengthens our capabilities across Asia and the Middle East. With their expertise on board, we are better placed to provide our clients with greater local insight and more seamless cross-border advice. We look forward to working closely with both our Malaysian network members to deliver greater value across the region.”
As a founding member of ASEAN and the current chair, Malaysia is a hub for economic activity in Southeast Asia. Its strategic location, well-developed infrastructure, and rising trade volumes - particularly with ASEAN partners - underscore its importance in regional integration. Its regional importance is evident through its participation in important trade agreements, including the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP). The RCEP brings together 15 countries in the Asia Pacific region and is expected to enhance cross-border trade and investment flows.
Within Malaysia, emerging sectors such as e-commerce, renewable energy, and digital services are driving new areas of growth and deepening ties with regional markets. Bilateral ties between Malaysia and Singapore have advanced through recent high-level engagements and initiatives like the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (SEZ), which is projected to significantly benefit Singapore in areas such as cross-border investment, sustainable technologies, and digital collaboration. Malaysia’s ongoing efforts to align regulations with global standards, enhance logistics capabilities, and grow high-value manufacturing further reinforce the potential for deeper economic cooperation regionally.
As Malaysia’s economic influence within the ASEAN region grows, WongPartnership and our Malaysian member firms in WPG are well placed to support our clients.
