Yozua MAKES (Dr)

Dr. Yozua Makes is the Founder and Managing Partner of Makes & Partners a member of WPG, and an award-winning law firm  in Southeast Asia, located in Jakarta.

He has more than 30 years of experience across corporate law, transnational mergers and acquisitions, capital markets, corporate finance, project finance, foreign investments, and a broad range of complex cross-border commercial transactions. He is astute in advising investors, and domestic and foreign-owned companies in cross-border project developments, including providing strategy and assistance in negotiating and drafting transactional, corporate, and commercial agreements spanning across various industries & sectors. Dr. Makes is commended by clients for being a "razor sharp" lawyer with comprehensive skills, adept in addressing legal, commercial, operational, financial, and even optical issues. He is also recognized as a "pre-eminent lawyer" equipped with "the gravitas, knowledge and network to drive commercial outcomes" (Chambers Asia-Pacific, 2019). In 2020, Dr. Makes was directly appointed by none other than the Indonesian President Joko Widodo, as one of the 5 highly distinguished members of the supervisory board of the Indonesian Investment Authority (Lembaga Pengelola Investasi or "LPI"), the first ever Indonesian sovereign wealth fund tasked to manage the investments of the central government and optimize economic growth. The board is composed of the Minister of Finance as chairperson, with the Minister of State-Owned Enterprises and three (3) private professionals as members, and only Dr. Makes being from the legal profession. Dr. Makes was also recently appointed as a member of the supervisory board of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry ("KADIN").

Dr. Makes’ other professional achievements include being one of the first members of the National Committee on Corporate Governance, a member of the Board of Experts of the Indonesian Publicly Listed Companies Association, and a registered Capital Market Lawyer with the Financial Services Authority (Otoritas Jasa Keuangan or "OJK").

Dr. Makes is a distinguished associate professor at the Faculty of Law of the prestigious University of Indonesia and University of Pelita Harapan. He is also the CEO of Plataran Indonesia, an Indonesian luxury hospitality group.
