A Virtual First: WongPartnership launches its inaugural virtual internship

02 Jun 2020

Singapore, 2 June 2020 –  In a first, WongPartnership welcomed its inaugural batch of “virtual interns” from NUS and SMU last month. Instead of a traditional internship, our latest batch of over 40 interns experienced first-hand, the innovation and creativity that WongPartnership prides itself on.

Spanning three weeks, the interns underwent an internship which was very much in step with the current need for safe distancing. Eschewing the traditional physical interactions of usual internships, the virtual internship provided the interns with consultations with their mentors over Zoom and opportunities for group interaction with project work and presentations to the Firm’s partners over conference calls and meetings.

Li Zizheng, a second year student from SMU commented, “I was very happy to find that the experience was really just the same as the internships I did in physical offices. Virtual calls are so easy and convenient that the distance does not create any communication barrier. Just like internships in physical offices, there were opportunities for me to learn about the work done, get feedback on my work, and to have chats with the mentors.”

“We see opportunity in adversity and the Covid-19 pandemic is certainly a challenging time. We were determined however, to not allow the situation deprive our interns of the opportunity to learn more about the practice of law and to imbibe the excitement of closing corporate transactions and the cut and thrust of litigation. I am glad that through innovation and sheer effort, we have been able to deliver a great experience for our interns,” said Alvin Yeo, SC, Chairman and Senior Partner of the Firm.

We warmly invite interested students to find out more about our internships at this link.
